Terms of Service
Effective date: July 15, 2026
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and HEAVITREE DEVELOPMENTS (“Briefd”, “we”, “us”), the operator of the Briefd service at bebriefd.com. By creating an account or using Briefd, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
If you are using Briefd on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization, and “you” refers to it.
2. The service
Briefd connects to your YouTube account, imports the channels you subscribe to, retrieves transcripts of new videos from those channels, generates summaries of them using artificial intelligence, and delivers those summaries to you as periodic email digests. The service also lets you browse channels and playlists, save and organize content, give feedback on summaries, and invite other users.
We continuously improve Briefd and may add, change, or remove features. If a change materially reduces the core functionality of a paid plan, we will notify you in advance.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or 16 where GDPR applies and your country has not set a lower age) and capable of forming a binding contract to use Briefd. You must also have a Google/YouTube account in good standing to use the YouTube-connected features.
4. Your account
- You must provide accurate account information and keep it up to date.
- You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account and for keeping your sign-in credentials secure.
- One person per account; accounts may not be shared or transferred.
- You can delete your account at any time from settings. Deletion is described in our Privacy Policy.
5. YouTube connection and Google terms
Briefd uses YouTube API Services. By connecting your YouTube account, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service and acknowledge the Google Privacy Policy. You can revoke Briefd’s access to your Google/YouTube data at any time via your Google security settings.
Briefd only requests read-only access to your YouTube account. Revoking access will stop Briefd from importing new content, and some features will stop working until you reconnect.
Briefd is an independent service. It is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or sponsored by YouTube, Google, or any video creator whose content is summarized.
6. Plans, trials, and billing
Free plan
Briefd offers a free plan with limited quotas (see Usage quotas). We may adjust free plan limits over time.
Paid subscription and trial
The paid plan is billed as a recurring subscription through Stripe at the price shown at checkout. New paid subscriptions may start with a 7-day free trial; when the trial ends, your subscription begins and your payment method is charged automatically unless you cancel before the trial ends.
Auto-renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period and your payment method is charged at the then-current price, until you cancel. We will give you advance notice of any price increase, which will take effect no earlier than your next renewal.
Cancellation
You can cancel at any time from the billing settings (managed through the Stripe customer portal). Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep paid features until then, and you will not be charged again.
Refunds
Payments are non-refundable except where required by law. But email us if you are unhappy and we will consider it — we want to provide the best service possible. Where you have statutory refund or withdrawal rights (for example as an EU/UK consumer), nothing in these Terms limits them.
Taxes
Prices may be exclusive of applicable taxes, which are added at checkout where required.
7. Usage quotas and fair use
Each plan includes usage quotas — for example, limits on the number of creators you can follow, the number of playlists that actively receive digests, and the number of new videos summarized per day and per week. Current quotas are shown in the app and on the pricing page and may be adjusted with notice.
Quotas exist because generating summaries has real processing costs. You agree not to circumvent quotas (including by creating multiple accounts), and we may throttle or suspend accounts engaged in abusive usage patterns, automated scraping of the service, or resale of Briefd output.
8. Referral program
Briefd may offer invite codes that reward you when someone you refer joins (for example, additional creator slots, subject to a cap shown in the app). Referral rewards have no cash value, may be changed or withdrawn at any time, and may be revoked in cases of abuse (such as self-referral or fake accounts).
9. AI-generated content
Summaries and related content in Briefd are generated by artificial intelligence. You acknowledge and agree that:
- Summaries may contain inaccuracies, omissions, or misinterpretations of the source video.
- Summaries are not endorsed by, affiliated with, or reviewed by the original creators, YouTube, or Google.
- Summaries are a convenience, not a substitute for watching the source video. Do not rely on them for medical, legal, financial, safety, or other consequential decisions.
- Where a summary matters to you, verify it against the original video, which is always linked from the digest.
10. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Briefd in violation of any law or third-party right, including the YouTube Terms of Service.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the service, or interfere with its operation.
- Access the service by automated means (bots, scrapers) other than through interfaces we provide.
- Resell, redistribute, or make the service available to third parties as a service.
- Systematically extract or republish summaries or other content at scale, or use the service to build a competing dataset or product.
- Circumvent quotas, referral rules, or access controls, or misrepresent your identity.
- Use the service to send spam or unlawful communications.
11. Intellectual property
Our content
The Briefd application, brand, design, and software are owned by HEAVITREE DEVELOPMENTS or its licensors. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the service for your personal, non-commercial use while these Terms are in effect.
Third-party content
Videos, titles, thumbnails, channel names, and transcripts belong to their respective creators and are provided via YouTube. Briefd claims no ownership of them. Summaries are derived works generated for your personal use; your use of underlying YouTube content remains governed by YouTube’s terms.
Your input
You retain any rights in content you submit (such as playlist names or interest keywords). You grant us a license to use it solely to operate the service for you. If you send us feedback or suggestions about Briefd, we may use them without obligation to you.
Takedowns
If you believe content available through Briefd infringes your rights, contact support@bebriefd.com and we will review and respond promptly.
12. Third-party services
Briefd depends on third-party services, including Google/YouTube (data source), OpenAI (summarization), Stripe (payments), Supabase (database and authentication), Resend (email), Vercel (hosting), Trigger.dev (scheduling), and Supadata (transcript retrieval). We are not responsible for the availability or conduct of third-party services, and features may be limited or interrupted when a third-party service changes or fails — for example, when a video has no available transcript or YouTube API access is restricted.
13. Termination
By you: you may stop using Briefd and delete your account at any time from settings.
By us: we may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, if required by law or by a platform we depend on (including Google/YouTube policy requirements), or if we discontinue the service. Where practical we will give you notice and, for paid plans terminated by us without cause, a pro-rata refund of prepaid fees for the unused period.
On termination, your license to use the service ends and your data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy. Sections that by their nature should survive (including IP, disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute terms) survive termination.
14. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTY THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT SUMMARIES WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived by contract.
15. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW: (a) WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL; AND (b) OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IN ANY 12-MONTH PERIOD WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THAT PERIOD OR USD $50.
These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.
16. Indemnification
You will indemnify and hold us harmless from claims and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the service, or your violation of law or third-party rights — except to the extent caused by our own breach or misconduct.
17. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia, Canada, excluding its conflict-of-law rules.
Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of Briefd will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of British Columbia, Canada, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court, and we may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect our intellectual property or confidential information.
If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you retain the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence and may bring proceedings in your local courts.
Before formal proceedings, please contact us at support@bebriefd.com — most issues can be resolved quickly and informally.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes we will give you advance notice by email or in the app. Changes take effect on the date stated in the notice; continued use after that date constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, stop using the service and, if applicable, cancel your subscription before the changes take effect.
19. General provisions
- Entire agreement — these Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the service.
- Severability — if any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- No waiver — our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment — you may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- Force majeure — we are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
